Report: Teams calling Bruins on Brad Marchand as contract talks fall apart
Teams want him, but will the Bruins trade him?
Boston Bruins captain Brad Marchand is officially out 'week to week' with an injury, but that hasn't prevented him from landing on the NHL's trade rumor wire.
Marchand suffered the injury this past weekend when he took a nasty hit from behind into the end boards from Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman P.O. Joseph.
Marchand has maintained that he wants to re-sign with the team and end his career as a member of the Bruins, but as of yet he has not yet put pen to paper. NHL insider Chris Johnston reports that the two sides are still going back and forth in contract talks but that the Bruins are open to trading their captain ahead of tomorrow's trade deadline.
The thing is... when those teams ring up Bruins GM Don Sweeney to put in an offer, they're being told, "No, not right now."
From Johnston:
There have been reports that the Edmonton Oilers tried to acquire Marchand in their deal for Trent Frederic earlier this week, but were again told 'No' by the Bruins. It'll be interesting to see how things progress in the next 24 hours. Stay tuned.
