It explains a lot:

Many fans understood why Patrick Kane was disappointed when the New York Rangers chose to acquire Vladimir Tarasenko from the St. Louis Blues instead of the Chicago Blackhawks star forward earlier this month.
However, Emily Kaplan of ESPN reveals on Wednesday why Kane was so upset and you have to feel for the veteran player after this new information. According to Kaplan, “based on conversations I’ve had with sources around the league, the behind the scenes talks with the Rangers were more advanced than have been reported. There was a path for Kane going to New York, his preferred destination should he leave Chicago, and then suddenly it felt like it was taken away — which is why you saw him react so vulnerably to the Vladimir Tarasenko trade.”
On top of that, you have to add all of his emotions concerning the reports on his hip injury. The reports have allegedly affected his trade value ahead of the deadline, with interested teams taking a closer look at the forward or worse, at what else is available on the trade market.
Kane remains in control as he has a full no-movement clause. We get that he would love to join former teammate Artemi Panarin in New York, however, the Rangers have $1.170 million in projected deadline cap space. There is a belief that the Blue Shirts might have gone with Tarasenko instead upon learning about Kane’s lingering hip issues. He as missed four games this season due to lower body injury, and has posted 14 goals and 42 points in 53 games.
If talks with the Rangers had gone so far as to make Kane believe he was going to be playing for NYC shortly, and then, seeing it all fall apart in the last minutes… we can understand why it’s been harder on Kane lately.
