The Boston Bruins continues to roll through the NHL standings, enjoying the top record out of all 32 clubs and continuing to hold their status as the odds-on favorite to win the Stanley Cup later this year.
Additionally, the NHL Trade Deadline is approaching, and this is the time of year when many a general manager decides to pull the trigger on a trade that will supplement his existing team for an additional boost come playoff time. While the Bruins haven't been rumored to be doing anything earth shattering when it comes to making a move, they have been linked to a valuable depth piece that could play a key role in the spring.
According to Bally Sports Midwest host Andy Strickland, the Bruins have expressed an interest in acquiring St. Louis Blues forward Ivan Barbashev:
In 52 games played this season for the Blues, who are on the outside looking in at the postseason and have already unloaded a major piece of their 2019 Stanley Cup victory in Vladimir Tarasenko, Barbashev has tallied nine goals to go with 24 points. He enjoyed a breakout season last year, scoring 26 goals and posting 60 points over 81 games played.
What's more, he could be another contract that the Blues may be looking to unload, considering that he's on an expiring deal with a $2.25 million cap hit; he can become an unrestricted free agent this summer.
Will Buins general manager Don Sweeney ultimately bring the 2019 Cup winner to Boston?
