Since the moment Barry Trotz was relieved of his duties by the New York Islanders, he's the only thing that Winnipeg Jets fans have been fixated on. The Jets, of course, are without a head coach for next season and there have been daily rumor reports linking Trotz to the Jets, but nothing quite like today's report from Jets insider Jeff Hamilton.

Hamilton reports that while Trotz has received interest from the Dallas Stars, Philadelphia Flyers, Vegas Golden Knights and Detroit Red Wings in addition the the Jets' interest it's the Jets' willingness to give Trotz a "job for life" that may give them the edge over other teams. Hamilton reports that Trotz's biggest priorities is to get himself into an opportunity that will enable him to transition into an NHL team's front office once his coaching days are done. He's also concerned with finding a good home for his family and getting his son, Nolan Trotz, into a good environment. The Jets, according to all reports, are willing to facilitate this with Trotz.

More from Hamilton:

Trotz certainly seems like a perfect fit for the Jets, but who's to say that one of the other teams in contention for him won't go above and beyond what he's seeking in terms of security? Personally, I wouldn't be surprised if Red Wings GM Steve Yzerman goes all out in pursuit of Trotz. Ditto for the Golden Knights... they don't really let much get in their way in their pursuit of ANYONE...

Taking everything else out of the equation though, Trotz is exactly what this Jets group needs. He'll bring structure and accountability to a team that has struggled to find its identity the past few seasons. The talent is there with this group and I have full faith in Trotz's ability to get results out of that talent.
