The start of the National Hockey League season has resulted in a number of surprises, including the great starts to the season for the Calgary Flames and Winnipeg Jets or the catastrophic starts for the Edmonton Oilers and Nashville Predators, but when the season is all wrapped up there will only be one that we can truly call the biggest surprise of the season.

Although which team that will prove to be is anyone's guess, on Sunday legendary former NHL coach Don Cherry shared his thoughts on the team he is predicting will be the biggest surprise of the season. Cherry was asked the question during the most recent episode of his podcast, and his surprise team landed on the positive side of that equation.

"Utah," said Cherry without any hesitation on his most recent podcast. "I think [they] will be the biggest surprise. They are in a new town and the whole... and I think they'll be the surprise of the year."

Cherry was asked a follow up question about whether or not he felt they could replicate the success of the expansion Vegas Golden Knights, but he balked at that suggestion and toned down expectations quite a bit with his follow up comment.

"Oh I don't think they'll make a run for it but... make the playoffs, that's about it," added Cherry.

Utah has come out of the gate with a relatively strong start, beginning the season with a record of 4-1-1, and they currently sit in third place in the NHL's Central Division. Whether or not they can live up to Cherry's expectations... only time will tell.
