It looks like we're approaching the finish line!
The most pressing need for the Red Wings is a player who is known for scoring goals, considering that both Tyler Bertuzzi and Jakub Vrana are now no longer members of the team. And they've been linked now for weeks to Farmington Hills native Alex DeBrincat, a two-time 40 goal scorer with the Chicago Blackhawks before being dealt to the Ottawa Senators last offseason.
And while it appeared that a potential deal for DeBrincat was being put on hold due to Detroit GM Steve Yzerman's alleged aversion to a long-term extension for the pending restricted free agent, it sounds as though that's on the verge of being worked out.
According to a tweet from NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman just minutes ago, the Red Wings appear to in fact be on the verge of bringing home a native son that will help tremendously with their need for more offensive production.
In 450 career NHL games, DeBrincat has scored 187 goals to go with 373 career points.
