Red Wings sign Lucas Raymond to a massive 8 year contract!

This just in, the Detroit Red Wings have signed RFA forward Lucas Raymond to an eight year contract worth just over $8 million per season.

The 22 year old Raymond is now the second highest paid player on the Red Wings after captain Dylan Larkin. He held firm in his ask of $8 million annually following an incredible breakout performance in 2023-24 where he scored 31 goals and 72 points in 82 games.
The RFA trio on Raymond, Jonatan Berggren and Moritz Seider were all unsigned prior today's signings from GM Steve Yzerman. Only Seider, arguably the most important player of the trio, remains unsigned with the team's training camp officially opening.

The Detroit Red Wings have signed one of their restricted free agents, but unfortunately it won't be one of the two names that most fans in Detroit have been waiting to hear about this summer.
On Monday, the Red Wings officially announced that they had come to terms with forward Jonatan Berggren, signing him to a one year deal at an average annual value and salary cap hit of $825,000 for this upcoming season.
The deal makes a great deal of sense given that Berggren has not truly established himself as a member of the Red Wings roster in spite of the fact that he is now 24 years old and was drafted all the way back in 2018 when the Red Wings selected him in the second round (33rd overall) of the 2018 NHL Entry Draft.
Berggren played just 12 games at the National Hockey League level last season, scoring 2 goals and adding 4 assists for a total of 6 points over that stretch of play. Instead he spent the majority of his season in the American Hockey League with the Grand Rapids Griffins, appeared in 53 games that saw him put up 24 goals and 32 assists for a total of 56 points.
This is a nice little signing for the Red Wings at a very low cost, but I expect that the vast majority of fans in Detroit will still be holding their breath as they await news regarding the team's two big unsigned RFAs, forward Lucas Raymond and defenseman Moritz Seider.
