Red Wings sign Justin Holl to deal worth over $10 million.
The Detroit Red Wings have signed the former Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman to a lucrative contract.
Steve Yzerman has bolstered the Detroit Red Wings defense, although he has paid a hefty sum to make it happen.
The Red Wings have officially announced that they have signed veteran defenseman Justin Holl to a new 3 year contract, one that will carry an average annual value and salary cap hit of $3.4 million per season. That works out to an investment of $10.2 million over the length of the deal, a large investment for a defenseman that was often the target of widespread fan criticism in Toronto.
The deal represents a significant raise for Holl whose previous contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs carried an average annual value of just $2 million per season.
Holl is coming off of the worst season of his career as a Maple Leafs as far as his offensice production was concerned, with just 2 goals and 16 assists for a total of 18 points over 80 games played on the season. The last time Holl produced so few points was during the 2019-20 NHL season, although he appeared in just 68 games that season.
