Red Wings release some bad news on star forward Patrick Kane
Are the Red Wings cooked again this season?
This just in, the Detroit Red Wings have announced that star forward Patrick Kane has been placed on injury reserve.
The 36 year old Kane has already missed four games with an upper-body injury and remains day-to-day, so he’s eligible to come off IR anytime. This move will free up a roster spot for the Red Wings to use immediately. The team has recalled forward William Lagesson from the AHL's Grand Rapids Griffins to take Kane's spot on the roster.
Kane has struggled to produce this season, which highlights a significant issue with the Red Wings. The former Hart Trophy winner has just three goals and 10 points in 20 games to start the season and is among the team's worst players at controlling possession, with just a 41.9% CF at even strength.
This is certainly not the level of play that the team was looking for from the future Hall of Famer when they inked him to a one year, $4 million extension last offseason. The Red Wings are currently four points out of a playoff spot and they have a pivotal divisional rivalry game against the Boston Bruins this evening. If they're going to salvage their season and make a run toward the Stanley Cup Playofs, tonight is the night to turn things around.
