With the 9th pick in the 2023 NHL Draft, the Red Wings selected Nate Danielson, a 6'2 center from the Western Hockey League's Brandon Wheat Kings. He arrived in the Red Wings organization highly regarded, having scored an impressive 33 goals and 45 assists in 2022-23 for the Wheat Kings.
Earlier this year, he was sent to the Portland Winterhawks in a deal that sent Nick Johnson (’05), defenseman Rhett Ravndahl (’05) and three WHL Prospects Draft picks back to Brandon. Danielson showed no signs of slowing down, continuing his impressive offensive output by recording 12 goals and 29 assists in the 41 games he played following the trade.
And following the conclusion of the Winterhawks season after they were swept by the Moose Jaw Warriors, Danielson has earned himself a promotion. He's on his way up to the Grand Rapids Griffins, the American Hockey League affiliate of the Red Wings, and will be joining them in time for their Game 2 Central Division Finals matchup against the Milwaukee Admirals.
