The Detroit Red Wings announced a minor move earlier this afternoon.
Goaltender Juho Olkinuora has been placed on unconditional waivers for purposes of a contract buyout:
The 32 year old Finnish native was never drafted into the NHL, and has spent time playing overseas in the KHL. He attended the University of Denver to play in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association, and first came to Detroit this past summer after signing a one-year, two-way league minimum contract.
He's posted a 6-8 record with a 3.75 goals against average and .868 save percentage this season with the American Hockey League affiliate Grand Rapids Griffins.
