Red Wings lose one of their top defensemen in warmups.

A very bad start for the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday night with one of their top defensemen making an early exit.

This is not a good sign for the Detroit Red Wings, not at all.

According to a report from Ryan Hana of the Winged Wheel podcast, the Red Wings may have lost the services of one of their top defensemen before the game even officially got underway. Hana is reporting that defenseman Simon Edvinsson, who appeared to be in the lineup for tonight's game, has made an early exit from warmups.

The absence of Edvinsson would mean that veteran defenseman Justin Holl would slot into the lineup this evening in lieu of the big Swedish defenseman, obviously a less than ideal scenario with Holl only having seen limited playing time thus far this season.

Although there has been no announcement of any kind from the Red Wings, it seems likely that Edvinsson will miss tonight's game due to an injury. Edvinsson was shaken up on Friday when the Red Wings took on the Anaheim Ducks, when he blocked a shot during the second period. Edvinsson struggled to get off the ice after blocking the shot and did not play at all in the game's third period, and it would seem that the injury will keep him out of the lineup tonight as well.

Some fans pointed out that Edvinsson appeared to be walking awkwardly as the Red Wings headed out to the ice for warm ups ahead of tonight's game against the Los Angeles Kings, but I'm not entirely convinced. You can see for yourself in the short video below, shared by the Red Wings earlier tonight.

Update: The Red Wings have now officially confirmed that Edvinsson will be out with a lower body injury.
