The Detroit Red Wings are being considered the favorites to land a former two time 40 goal scorer.

The Detroit Red Wings are being linked to a very interesting potential trade, although it remains to be seen whether or not Red Wings general manager Steve Yzerman will be able to make it happen.

On Monday, National Hockey League insiders Jeff Marek and Elliotte Friedman discussed what many believe to be the pending trade of Ottawa Senators forward Alex DeBrincat. DeBrincat and his representatives have made it clear that they are not looking to sign a long term deal with the Ottawa Senators, and many believe the Senators will trade the restricted free agent ahead of the upcoming National Hockey League Entry Draft as a result.

Both Marek and Friedman expressed their belief that DeBrincant's most likely destination is the Detroit Red Wings.

"I have a hard time believing that at the end of all this, it's not gonna be Detroit," said Marek on the 32 Thoughts Podcast.

"I think I said at the beginning when we first talked about it that I was going with Detroit until I was proven wrong," added Friedman.

DeBrincat makes his home in Michigan and there is a belief that there is interest from the Red Wings, but the deal won't be without it's challenges. First it is unclear what the Red Wings would have to give up, and there would also be the matter of a new deal for DeBrincat that Friedman believes might not sit well with Yzerman.

"I think there's a couple of things here," began Friedman. "Number one I've heard that Steve Yzerman is not crazy about term... some people have told me Yzerman is not crazy about term."

Friedman also suggested that if the negotiations around a DeBrincat trade dragged on for too long, Yzerman would be the kind of general manager to pull out of a deal.

DeBrincat, a former two time 40+ goal scorer, is coming off another solid season of offensive production in which he had 27 goals and 39 assists for 66 points over 82 games as with the Ottawa Senators.
