The Detroit Red Wings have added some depth at the goaltending position to kick off free agency.
According to multiple reports, the Red Wings have now come to terms on a new deal with veteran goaltender James Reimer. The deal is believed to be a 1 year contract that will carry an average annual value and salary cap hit of $1.5 million per season.
This move is clearly designed to bring in a capable veteran that will be able to push Red Wings goaltender Ville Husso this season, although many would likely argue that Reimer's best days have come and gone. Reimer posted some rather mediocre numbers last season with a 3.48 goals against average and a .890 save percentage, but he was doing so with a pretty poor San Jose Sharks team playing in front of him.
Just one season prior however, when the Sharks were much less of a mess, Reimer had a solid season over 48 games with a 2.90 goals against average and a .911 save percentage. The Red Wings are of course hoping that a fresh start will help him regain his form after a tough season.
