Reasons for Alexei Kolosov quitting on Flyers revealed.
The Philadelphia Flyers have yet another unhappy prospect, this time it is goaltender Alexei Kolosov.
At least now we know the reason why.
Last week I covered a story in which, by all accounts at the time, it appeared very much like Flyers goaltending prospect Alexei Kolosov would be quitting on the team. It would have been a big story in its own right, but with the news coming so shortly after the highly publicized Cutter Gauthier drama, this one rubbed many Flyers fans the wrong way.
It now appears even more likely that Kolosov is looking for a way out of Philadelphia for good, with a report today that the Lehigh Valley Phantoms have signed former National Hockey League goaltender to an American Hockey League contract for this upcoming season.
That report comes courtesy of AHL reporter Tony Androckitis who also shed some light into why Kolosov was so unhappy with the Flyers. According to Androckitis, Kolosov was left alone in a hotel in a foreign country with no one to talk to for the vast majority of the day on a regular basis.
"They put him in the hotel by himself & he felt isolated, especially since his English isn’t great," said a source as per Androckitis.
The loneliness combined with watching the Flyers sign goaltender Ivan Fedotov to an NHL contract immediately upon arriving in North America likely proved to be too much frustration for the young netminder.
This is of course poor asset management on the part of the Flyers and you do have to wonder if their poor handling of Kolosov may come back to haunt them in the future.
