Rangers officially put two of their top stars on the trading block.

The New York Rangers are looking to make some truly massive changes to their roster.

The New York Rangers have had enough.

It appears as though the Rangers are looking to make some truly seismic changes to their roster according to a report from arguably the top National Hockey League insider in the business, and it sounds like the intent will be to make those changes during the course of the current season if possible.

On Monday morning, NHL insider Elliotte Friedman published a shocking report in which he specifically named two of the most recognizable names in New York Rangers hockey as players the Rangers organization is currently actively looking to trade. Those names are that of veteran forward Chris Kreider and Rangers captain Jacob Trouba.

To be clear Friedman has indicated that other options will also be considered here by the Rangers, but to have Kreider and Trouba both named in this report is shocking.

The fact that the Rangers want to trade Trouba doesn't come as much of a surprise given that there were very loud rumors during the offseason that suggested the Rangers had a deal in place to send Trouba to the Detroit Red Wings, a trade that never materialized. There is a belief that Trouba blocked that deal with the limited no-trade clause available to him in his contract, so it should come as no surprise that the Rangers are still attempting to do so.

Kreider on the other hand is a shocking name to see included in this report when you consider that he has been a cornerstone or franchise-type player since being drafted by the Rangers. Kreider was selected in the first round (19th overall) of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft by the Rangers and has played every single one of his 834 career NHL games as a member of the Rangers franchise. Kreider has been one of the team's most dynamic forwards during his time with the team and continues to produce offensively with 9 goals over 19 games this season thus far.

According to Friedman the decision from the Rangers to send shockwaves through their locker room comes after the team suffered an embarrassing loss over the weekend, getting blown out on the road against the Edmonton Oilers by a score of 6-2. Although the Oilers competed in the Stanley Cup Final this past summer, they have struggled this season winning just 11 of their first 22 games and have been outscored by their opponents over that stretch with a -5 goal different. Both those stats include the win over the Rangers on the weekend, so you can see why Rangers' management wasn't happy about losing so badly to a team that is having its own issues this season.

Only time will tell what kind of move the Rangers make off the heels of this report, but it sounds like a move will be coming and it could very well be a big one.
