The New York Rangers will be without the services of goaltender Igor Shesterkin.

The New York Rangers have lost arguably their best player to injury, but thankfully there is a silver lining here for the blueshirts.

According to a report from the New York Post's Mollie Walker, Igor Shesterkin will miss the next one to two weeks of action due to an injury. Shesterkin is officially being ruled out with an "upper body" injury which is less than ideal for the Rangers, but the silver lining comes from the timing of this injury.

The Rangers have called up goaltender Dylan Garand who will serve as backup to Rangers goalie Jonathan Quick in Shesterkin's absence, but Garand won't likely have to worry about seeing too many pucks. The entire National Hockey League is about to take a mid-season break as a result of this year's Four Nations Face-Off, which makes the timing of this injury extremely fortunate for the Rangers.

The Rangers will play today against the Columbus Blue Jackets and Shesterkin will miss that game, but they won't play again until much later this month when the Rangers face the Buffalo Sabres on February 22nd in their first game back from the Four Nations Face-Off.

According to veteran reporter Arthur Staple, it sounds like the expectation is that Shesterkin will be ready to return to action once the tournament has concluded which is of course very fortunate news for the Rangers.

A 1-2 week injury to your star goaltender is less than ideal to be sure, but the Rangers will be extremely fortunate if they can get out of this situation with Shesterkin only missing a single game.
