Proof emerges out of Philly on how crazy the trade deadline is this year!
The race is so close everywhere in the league, causing this intense bidding war as we speak! Full story below:
Last Friday night, Philadelphia Flyers veteran forward Scott Laughton stunned everyone when he posted on X a picture of his version of the Last Supper as he’s been dealing with intense trade chatter for weeks now.
Immediately, rumours got louder with everyone wondering what the veteran player knows about the Flyers’ trade plans and where he will be sent prior to Friday’s deadline.
Ken Campbell of the Hockey News provided an update on the situation on Wednesday when he explained how if anyone needed “any more evidence of how crazy the trade deadline is and how teams tend to lose their minds, there is currently a bidding war going on for Scott Laughton.”
Several suitors out there need a middle-six center and Laughton fits the bill. Most recently, Laughton has been linked to the Toronto Maple Leafs. In the past, there were reports that the Winnipeg Jets had attempted to acquire Laughton by offering a second-round pick to Philly.
It’s been previously reported that the price to acquire Laughton is a first-round pick, or the prospect equivalent of one. The veteran player is still under contract for one year, at $3 million AAV.
Maybe the price tag has gone up with the rumoured bidding war going on…
Last week when asked about the possibility of a trade, Laughton said: "I understand it’s a business and Danny and Jonesy (have) got to do what’s best for the group in the future. (I’m) trying to help this team win and make a little push here. There’s a week left. See what happens.”
I guess so, we too have to wait and see what happens.
