The Vegas Golden Knights have so much love for veteran Phil Kessel. Captain Mark Stone told Michael Traikos of the Hockey News:
”He’s unreal, man. One of my favourite teammates that I’ve ever played. He could have pouted and gone away, but he still came to the rink every day, working hard with a smile on his face … he’s a guy that I wish I could have played my whole career with.”
While Stone wished he could have played his entire career with Kessel, there is no guarantee that he will even play next season with the veteran forward. Kessel only signed a one-year contract with the Golden Knights last summer and will become an unrestricted free agent on July 1.
However, when asked about the meaning of this third Stanley Cup and his future in the NHL by Traikos, Kessel was adamant that he will play next year, whenever that may be.
“They’re all special, right? They all have different meaning. I’ve had an opportunity to win three now and not many guys can say that. I still want to play longer. I’m not done in any way. I’m looking forward to playing next year, wherever I’m at, and to keep going.”
He said the same thing to Sportsnet, adding that he he’s not retiring, still feels young, and intends to play next season:
I can’t wait to see what the IronMan does next and with which team!
