For the first time ever, the Vegas Golden Knights are on top of the NHL, winning their first Stanley Cup in franchise history, only six years after their expansion into the league.
The party will go on all summer long and veteran forward Phil Kessel told Jackie Redmond how he plans to celebrate this time around.
“Uh, I don’t know. Try not to puke,” he said as he burst out laughing.
Kessel will now be referred to as a three-time Stanley Cup champion, after he won his first two Stanley Cup rings with Sidney Crosby and the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2016 and 2017.
The veteran forward had not played since the first round of the 2023 Stanley Cup Playoffs against the Winnipeg Jets as Vegas opted for a different lineup configuration that did not include Kessel.
In four games in the Jets series, Kessel posted two assists and a plus-minus of plus-2. But he was mentioned more than once by his teammates as an important member of the team, keeping things light and entertaining the rest of the roster during the demanding run towards the championship.
His mission is accomplished and now we wonder if he will be able to stick to his plans during the celebrations in Vegas!
