Earlier this summer, the Vegas Golden Knights signed veteran forward Phil Kessel to a one-year contract worth $1.5 million.
We all know that Kessel is happy to play with the Knights, a team that was one of his top destination when trade rumours emerged about Kessel in recent years. However, the chatter about Kessel has just been around new contract and trade rumours, but often about his weight.
However, when Kessel showed up to team meetings in Vegas, TSN’s Darren Dreger was not the only one to notice that the veteran forward looked in shape, and lighter than past seasons.
Even captain Mark Stone commented on how fat he expected Kessel to be ahead of camp and how stunned he was to finally meet the man that is ready for the season and looking great. This is what he said about his new teammate, per The Athletic:
“When I first saw him, I was expecting him to be 300 pounds. Furthest thing from it. I mean, this guy can throw weight around the gym. He’s one of the strongest guys — one of most underrated strong guys I’ve ever seen.”
Kessel is coming off a 52-point season with the Arizona Coyotes in 2021-22. Let’s see how well he can do in Vegas with his new shape!
