On Monday, the New York Islanders were humiliated in a 7-1 blowout loss at the hands of the Buffalo Sabres. The Sabres had lost 13 straight games (0-10-3) entering Monday night. On Friday, it was their own head coach’s turn to humiliate them.

During open practice where fans could attend and watch the Islanders skate, Patrick Roy somehow managed to grab a microphone and addressed the fans. With his players watching and listening, he told the the fanbase in attendance the team isn’t happy about its performance but will work extremely hard to improve.

Ahead of the Isles’ matchup against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday, Roy is however keeping the same lineup he used vs. Buffalo:

The three-day holiday break might have allowed the players to reset, but this was a rude awakening for them when Roy decided to get the fans even more involved than they’ve been since the start of the season and the beginning of the club’s struggles.

Let’s not forget how, prior to the contest against the Sabres, the Islanders had come off their best win of 2024-25, where they dominated the Toronto Maple Leafs en route to a 6-3 victory on Saturday. It was the first win that showed the potential of what a healthy Islanders’ lineup could look like, though it was quickly erased by the humiliating loss to Buffalo.

Now let’s see how the Islanders react to Roy’s comments and how they come out on Saturday night against Pittsburgh.
