Team Canada is on top of the women’s hockey world once again and of course it was led by Marie-Philip Poulin. She scored two goals against the United States to help Canada reclaim Olympic gold in Beijing by a score of 3-2 on Thursday. Oh and just so you know: since making her Olympic debut at age 18 in Vancouver back in 2010, Poulin has played in four gold-medal matchups and has scored in all four.

She’s the only player, man or woman, in Olympic hockey history to score in four different gold medal games. And because she’s basically won everything there is to win in women’s hockey, a mens’ professional team has offered her a contract. The general manager of the Lions de Trois-Rivières and former NHL player Marc-Andre Bergeron has confirmed the offer to join Poulin their team in the ECHL. This is his statement, translated from French:

“She’s the best in her sport. She’s won everything she could win in women’s hockey. She’s at the top of her game. I think everyone is wondering how far she could go in the men’s game. If she shows interest, we’ll do it right. We’ll allow her to practice, to feel comfortable before being sending her on the ice. We’ve always said we’re here to give opportunities… “

If she accepts the offer from the Laval Rocket farm club, it would not be the first time that Poulin plays in men’s hockey: she played Midget Espoir and had even been invited at the training camp of the Victoriaville Tigres in the QMJHL at the time. She instead preferred to go to Boston University and continue her career in the United States.

I am so excited she gets that chance: she is unbelievable!

Poulin’s agent that it is too early to comment on this offer, since she has just played her final game at the 2022 Winter Games and will have to take the time to return home before evaluating the offer.

How exciting!
