Oilers reportedly make decision following Blues' offer sheet

Would this be the right call?

Michael W.

Hockey fans were treated to one of the rare occurrences of an offseason thanks to the St. Louis Blues tendering offer sheets to not one but two Edmonton Oilers players, leaving new Edmonton general manager Stan Bowman with a pair of important decisions to make.

The Blues gave offer sheets to both Dylan Holloway and Philip Broberg, both of whom are restricted free agents. This means that Oilers would have one week to either match the offer sheets, or to allow them both to walk and receive draft compensationin return

"The contract that Broberg accepted with the Blues (two years, $9.16 million) would require a second-round pick as compensation, while the one Holloway accepted (two years, $4.58 million) would require a third-round pick."

And according to NHL Insider Elliott Friedman, the Oilers are likely to match the offer sheet for Hollaway:

Holloway played 38 games last season with the Oilers, scoring six goals with three assists. He also played 18 games with the American Hockey League Baskersfield Condors, scoring 10 goals and six assists.

Meanwhile, Broberg only registered a pair of assists in 12 games with Edmonton; he spent most of his playing time with Bkersfield, scoring five goals and 33 assists in 49 games.
