Oilers release statement regarding Saturday night's medical emergency.
Oilers release an official statement on the medical emergency that brought an NHL game to a halt.
The National Hockey League was forced to react quickly to an unexpected crisis on Saturday night when a fan in attendance for Saturday's game between the Edmonton Oilers and Calgary Flames suddenly had a medical episode while in the crowd.
Doctors and paramedics on hand rushed to help the fan who was having the episode and in a great show of class the NHL would eventually put the game on pause in an effort to allow medical professionals to properly care for the fan in question.
Of course many have wondered how the fan who suffered this medical episode is doing and for the first time we now have an official update courtesy of the Edmonton Oilers. Although the Oilers did not share any specific details regarding what transpired on Saturday night, they did wish the fan in question a speedy recovery which is great news as I read that as an indication that the fan pulled through despite the medical emergency.
From the Oilers:
During last night's Battle of Alberta game at Rogers Place, a fan experienced a medical emergency & was attended to by emergency personnel, OEGSE arena & team staff & fans. The game was paused to allow the time & space needed to attend to the fan & prepare them for transport to hospital.
The Edmonton Oilers & OEGSE are grateful to the emergency services personnel, our OEGSE staff & the fans who assisted in attending to this emergency. Our thoughts & prayers are with the fan, their family & loved ones & we wish them a speedy recovery.
It was great to see the league, teams and players involved in this game drop everything at a moment's notice to ensure the well being of someone in the crowd and it's just one more sign of what a truly wonderful community the hockey community truly is.
I too would like to wish this fan a full and hopefully speedy recovery.
