With the latest round of NHL waivers in the books, the Edmonton Oilers have made a call to wave a member of the blue line core.
25 year old defenseman Markus Niemelainen was waived this afternoon:
In the three preseason games that he appeared in, he didn't register a point. He's skated in 43 career NHL games, with just a single assist in that time. He's also played in 85 AHL games, racking up 21 points. Additionally, he's suited up on the international stage for Finland.
The Finnish native was selected with the 63rd overall pick in the 2016 NHL Draft by the Oilers.
