Oilers might have found Evander Kane’s replacement…

The Edmonton Oilers lost forward Evander Kane to a gruesome wrist injury nearly a month ago and it has been reported that GM Ken Holland scoured the trade market for a replacement while his top forward recovers.

At the time of the surgery, Kane was expected to be out three to four months. Over the weekend, Kane skated for the first time, though he mentioned last month how he had yet to recover the feeling in his thumb from the severed nerves.

Meanwhile, the Oilers are struggling with a mediocre 14-11-0 record. Fans expected way more than this. It could prompt Holland to get that much-needed replacement for the void left by Kane to help captain Connor McDavid star forward Leon Draisaitl carry the load offensively.

Kevin Weekes, analyst and former NHL goaltender, believes Chicago Blackhawks’ Max Domi could be the ideal candidate. He mentioned how a trade would fit both the Hawks and Oilers.

“Well here’s the thing, he (Domi) has impressed them, it’s been a nice fit for them in Chicago so far,” Weeks said. “There’s some thought that either he’s going to do an extension, or to your point, a contending team, a buyer, may want his services. Perhaps Edmonton.”

Domi signed a one-year, $3 million deal with Chicago this summer, and is likely to be traded closer to the deadline. His salary isn’t expected to be an issue for the Oilers or their cap.
