Just call Stuart Skinner up already!

The Edmonton Oilers have officially signed NCAA star Ryan Fanti to a two year contract beginning in 2022-23. He'll join the Oilers' AHL affiliate Bakersfield Condors on a professional tryout agreement for the balance of the AHL season.
The 22 year old Fanti was an undrafted unrestricted free agent and earned a bit of a sweepstakes for himself with his play this season with an impressive campaign for Minnesota-Duluth. The native of Thunder Bay, Ontario posted a 20-12-4 record, 1.83 goals-against average, .929 save percentage and seven shutouts this season and was named an All-Star.
While Fanti won't help out the Oilers between the pipes this season, he'll certainly give them some depth at the AHL level moving forward. If all goes well for him, he could take over the reigns for 23 year old Condors starter Stuart Skinner, who has been impressive in the 13 games he's played for the Oilers this season. Many Oilers fans see Skinner as a better option than current Oilers' netminders Mike Smith and Mikko Koskinen, but due to the team's logjam at the position Skinner has been forced to remain in the AHL. With Fanti added to the mix now though, things could get even more interesting.
