Oilers lose Travis Dermott, claimed off waivers!

BREAKING NEWS: movement on the waiver wire!

Chris Gosselin

On Thursday, the Edmonton Oilers had placed defenseman Travis Dermott on waivers just one day after claimimg blue liner Alec Regula off the wire from the Boston Bruins.

On Friday, the Minnesota Wild claimed Dermott off waivers from Edmonton, per Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet.

Dermott joined the Oilers on a one-year, two-way contract in Edmonton after participating in training camp on a PTO.

In 339 career NHL games, the second round pick from the Maple Leafs has 16 goals and 62 points split between Toronto, Vancouver Canucks, Arizona Coyotes and Oilers.

The Wild claimed Dermott just hours after announcing that defenseman Jake Middleton would miss significant time after sustaining a hand injury Thursday night. He is believed to have broken a finger in his right hand on his first shift against the Oilers when he was struck by a wrist shot from Evan Bouchard.

The Wild placed Middleton on long-term injury reserve, which means he has to miss at least 10 games and 24 days. Dermott's arrival will be perfect to fill in the void.
