Oilers issue statement after sudden resignation of Steve Staios
He suddenly resigned this morning and took a new job.
HockeyFeed
By now, you've heard the news that former Edmonton Oilers defenseman Steve Staios has been named the new President of Hockey Operations for the Ottawa Senators, leaving his position with Edmonton as special advisor to hockey operations.
While it was assumed that Staios could be a potential replacement for current Oilers general manager Ken Holland at some point in the future, that's now out of the realm of possibility.
Not long after the news was announced, the Oilers appeared to have been caught off guard by Staios' decision and released the following statement:
"Steve Staios has resigned his position as a special advisor to Edmonton Oilers hockey operations to pursue another opportunity. We have accepted Steve’s resignation, thank him for his time with the club and wish him the best in his future endeavors."
There may be more information forthcoming as to what led to the sudden resignation of Staios, but it certainly doesn't sound that based on their response that the Oilers anticipated it.
