Oilers and Habs agree on a 1 for 1 trade on Friday.

There was another trade in the NHL on Friday, although you may not have heard about it.

Believe it or not there were actually two trades in the National Hockey League on Friday although you may not have guessed it with all of the attention, rightfully so, being focused on the trade that sent now former New York Rangers captain Jacob Trouba to the Anaheim Ducks.

The second trade involved a deal between the Edmonton Oilers and Montreal Canadiens and it was a much smaller deal which is why it didn't get nearly as much attention as the big Trouba trade earlier today. Not only was this trade smaller in terms of its magnitude, but it was also very straightforward as a 1 for 1 deal between the two teams.

The big name in this trade is that of former first round pick Jacob Perreault who was selected 27th overall in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft by the Anaheim Ducks, a draft pedigree that has resulted in Perrault playing just a single NHL game since being drafted.

Things have gone so poorly for Perreault that he actually appeared in 5 ECHL games for the Trois-Rivieres Lions this season, picking up a goal and 5 assists over that stretch of play.

Perreault was under contract with the Montreal Canadiens organization and has been traded to the Oilers in exchange for Noel Hoefenmayer. Hoefenmayer, who has never played in an NHL game, has played in just 11 games this season, all of which have been with the Bakersfield Condors of the American Hockey League. Hoefenmayer has 1 goal and 6 assists this season for a total of 11 points over that stretch.

This trade certainly won't have a major impact on either of the teams involved in this deal but perhaps a fresh start will prove to be a positive for both men and by extension for both of their new teams as well.
