Trade chatter is quite loud in Calgary as rumours are involving goalie Jacob Markstrom and defensemen Chris Tanev and Noah Hanifin. The latter isn’t only feeling the pressure on the ice, but is also dealing with the consequences of all the speculations on his life at home. When speaking with team insider Eric Francis of Sportsnet, Hanifin revealed how hard it has been to deal with all the trade rumours with less than a month to go till the trade deadline on March 8.

“It’s a huge decision, and my family plays a huge part in that,” he opened up.

“My fiancée, my parents, my brother and sisters were all home, so I was able to discuss with them the whole situation because obviously it’s going to be coming to a head sooner rather than later.”

Whether they want to or not, Hanifin’s family members are involved in trade talks as they keep seeing a potential new landing spot almost every day. Hanifin has been prevented linked to clubs with more long-term plans in mind. Teams appear to be waiting to see on his willingness to sign an extension with his new team.

Chris Johnston recently reported that Hanifin’s representatives are expected to meet with management soon to present their final position. If the Flames and the blue liner’s agents fail to reach an agreement on a new contract, Hanifin could be shopped and will have to tell his family on where they’re going next.

Just like Tanev, Hanifin is slated to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1, which has prompted rival teams and contenders to ask about his availability ahead of the postseason.

The Flames could miss out on taking part in the playoffs for the second straight season as they currently sit fifth in the Pacific division, but just one point out of the last Wild Card spot in the Western conference, ahead of Friday’s action.

Fans in Calgary are on edge when it comes to trade rumours and potential more moves coming after forward Elias Lindholm was shipped to the Vancouver Canucks in a blockbuster deal earlier this month.

I can only imagine what Hanifin’s family has been going through lately with rumours picking up steam…
