Nikolaj Ehlers to undergo surgery.

A major setback.

The Winnipeg Jets have just lost one of their top forwards for the foreseeable future.

According to a report from TSN's John Lu, Winnipeg Jets head coach Rick Bowness has just informed members of the media that veteran Jets forward Nikolaj Ehlers will be undergoing surgery and will be out of action for the foreseeable future. Ehlers has only appeared in a total of 2 games for the Jets this season due to an injury suffered back in October.

Ehlers will now undergo sports hernia surgery sometime next week and it is likely at that time that we will have a better idea of when Ehlers can be expected to return to the lineup, however at the time of this writing there is currently no timeline for Ehlers return. Bowness did stress however that he does expect Ehlers will be back at some point this season, which I suppose can be taken as a silver lining in a situation such as this one.

As it turns out it was Ehlers who pulled himself from a game against the Dallas Stars back on the 17th of October, with Bowness indicating that the 26 year old forward just felt that something wasn't right. Unfortunately for both Ehlers and the Jets, it would seem that his intuition about his body was spot on.

Ehlers had no goals but did record 3 assists over the 2 games he played for the Jets this season.
