Nikita Zadorov's fate with the Canucks sealed

There you have it.

It looks like Russian defenseman Nikita Zadorov, who played this most recent season with the Calgary Flames and Vancouver Canucks, will be donning a new sweater this fall.

According to comments made by Canucks defenseman Patrik Allvin, Zadorov is heading to free agency and won't be signing an extension with Vancouver:

In Allvin's mind, overpaying to keep Zadorov a member of the team isn't justification enough for a hefty extension.

“As of today, it appears that we couldn’t go any farther with Nikita Zadorov,” said Allvin. “He will test the free agent market.

“For us, it’s not just about each individual, it’s about getting a team that is competitive and fitting the puzzle. So that’s the direction that Nikita has decided to go and we did our best, and we couldn’t go any further.”

In the 54 games that Zadorov played following the trade, he scored five goals with nine assists, and he added another four goals and four assists in 13 postseason games.

Free agency officially opens up on Monday afternoon.
