The National Hockey League and the hockey world at large was hit with a devastating tragedy this summer when the lives of NHL star Johnny Gaudreau and his brother Matthew Gaudreau were taken far too soon.

It was a terrible tragedy that will continue to impact the lives of the Gaudreau family forever and one that is still fresh in the hearts and minds of hockey fans around the world, most of whom remain in total disbelief at the fact that the brothers are gone.

Although there is nothing that will ever replace Johnny or Matthew, on Saturday night the NHL showed great class when they honored the fallen brothers on the first night of preseason action across the league.

The NHL released a one minute tribute video that touched on the lives of both brothers as hockey players but more importantly on their lives as brothers, husbands, fathers, sons and people in general. It was a short but beautiful tribute from the league and I suspect it will only be the first of many that we will see this season.

Johnny and Matthew were killed on August 29th while cycling home from a rehearsal dinner for their sister's wedding, which was scheduled to take place the very next day. The two men were struck from behind when a driver, Sean M. Higgins, who was over the legal limit and admitted to consuming several beers drove his vehicle into Johnny and Matthew as he tried to aggressively pass the other drivers in front of him.
