NHL Executive: Patrick Kane to Boston makes sense!

The Boston Bruins haven't heard anything in terms of commitments beyond this season from the likes of franchise icons Patrice Bergeron and David Krejci, both of whom are playing on one-year contracts and many speculate that this could be their final NHL campaigns. Needless to say, if that holds true, the Bruins will be trying anything and everything to try and make one more Stanley Cup run with that pair on board. 

They're certainly off to a terrific start, holding a sparkling 16-2 record to lead the rest of the League. Could they take advantage of a potential franchise-altering fire sale from an Original 6 rival? According to one unnamed NHL executive, it's certainly a possibility. 

Another NHL star in the final year of his respective contract is Chicago Blackhawks forward Patrick Kane, whom many are speculating could be traded from the only team he's ever played for later this season. And according to the NHL executive, the Bruins could be a prime fit. 

“The sharks aren’t necessarily circling yet, but his name has been coming up more lately and I can imagine it will a lot more as we go forward here,” the NHL Exec told Boston Hockey Now Friday evening. “Like I said, it’s basically scuttlebutt still but if I’m a legit Stanley Cup contender, I’m greasing the skids ASAP. I think he definitely gets moved and the price is only getting higher from here for a guy like him.”

He continued: 

“Patrick Kane and the Bruins make a lot of sense,” the NHL Exec told BHN. “The Bruins were all in already but with this start, I’d say they’re full speed ahead and will do whatever it takes to get Patrice Bergeron one more Stanley Cup. They have cap issues now so they can’t really go hard after Kane or anyone, but they need to be laying down the foundation for acquiring a player like that.”
