NHL analyst: Carey Price unworthy of major honor
Habs fans will have a considerable issue with this!
There has been an ongoing debate amongst fans of the Montreal Canadiens as to whether or not goaltender Carey Price should have his sweater No. 31 hanged in the rafters of Bell Centre alongside those of franchise icons like Patrick Roy, Ken Dryden and Jacques Plante.
And while Dryden himself has openly endorsed the idea, one NHL writer has made his stance of feeling the exact opposite way clear. Analyst Brian Wilde stated in no uncertain terms while making an appearance on The Sick Podcast with Tony Marinaro that Price lacks the accolades of past Canadiens legends.
"I think the standard of the Canadiens is Cups or many, many years of trophies, and he has only one of each and no Cups," Wilde said. "And that's simply, for me, not enough."
Price is the winningest goaltender in the rich history of the Canadiens, with a total of 361. However, he's been unable to play since a brief return to action in 2022 owing to a debilitating knee ailment.
His playing career effectively ended following Montreal’s surprise run to the 2021 Stanley Cup Final. Price would be placed on LTIR with a nagging knee injury and also would eventually check himself into the NHL's Player Assistance Program; he was awarded the Bill Masteron Trophy in 2022 for his perseverance and dedication to hockey.
