NFL style 'Red Zone' coming for NHL fans in 2024-25

Yes! I've been asking for this for 10 years!

Today, Amazon Prime unveiled the broadcasting team for the upcoming 2024-25 season.

The streaming giant Amazon will be broadcasting games online on Monday evening's this upcoming season and will rely on a star-studded cast in their first foray into the hockey world.

Just check out these names:

The biggest 'get' here is, of course, John Forslund. The likeable play-by-play man has established himself as one of the best broadcasters in hockey, north or south of the border. Forslund has been a part of the NHL on TNT crew for a couple seasons now and has been the official play by play voice of the Carolina Hurricanes and the Seattle Kraken.

The biggest name on Amazon's roster though is obviously Mark Messier. While Messier's NHL career is Hall of Fame material, his analyst game is Div 10 beer-league level.  I don't know how he keeps finding employment as an analyst other than through name recognition.

Adnan Virk and Andi Petrillo are both fine hosts and the trio of Jody Shelley, Thomas Hickey and Shane Hnidy should offer up some great insight. I'm ashamed to say that I don't know much about Blake Bolden other than that she's a retired women's hockey player.

All in all, this is a pretty solid roster for Amazon heading into their first year of partnership with the NHL.

Even more importantly though, Amazon announced a Thursday night program called 'Coast to Coast' where hosts will buzz around the entire league with live look-ins and updates from every game on the schedule.

If you're familiar with 'NFL Red Zone', this is essentially the same thing. Tune into one broadcast and catch all the important moments in every game, without needing to sit through all the downtime. Love it!
