The Pittsburgh Penguins have lost one of their goaltenders on Friday after a big collision with Colorado Avalanche forward Casey Mittelstadt.

When it rains it pours.

The Pittsburgh Penguins are all but mathematically eliminated from contention in the 2024 Stanley Cup playoffs but in spite of that the team came out and put up a pretty good effort against the Colorado Avalanche on Sunday afternoon. Sidney Crosby would lead the way with 4 points through the first two periods of play, but unfortunately that positive push for the Penguins would get derailed in the game's third period.

Penguins goaltender Alex Nedeljkovic would leave the game after a pretty physical collision with Colorado Avalanche forward Casey Mittelstadt. Mittelstadt had a scoring chance on the play but the puck would ride up his stick, leaving him unable to fire off a shot or direct the puck in any meaningful way.

As Mittelstadt was focused on the bouncing puck, he would crash into Nedeljkovic with Nedeljkovic's head absorbing a significant part of that impact.

The Penguins goaltender was shaken up on the play but he would attempt to remain in the game before eventually leaving down the tunnel a few moments after the initial contact.

Update: It would appear as though the NHL's concussion spotters pulled Nedeljkovic from the game, as he has now returned to the ice. Unfortunately Nedeljkovic was unable to return before Tristan Jarry gave up the game-tying goal to the Avalanche after coming in cold late in the third period.
