More bad news on Patrick Kane from head coach Derek Lalonde.
The Detroit Red Wings are in the midst of another tough season and more bad news arrived on Monday.
The Detroit Red Wings are going to have to play without one of their top forwards tonight, Red Wings head coach Derek Lalonde has confirmed.
On Monday, Lalonde informed reporters that Kane would be held out of the lineup tonight due to injury, meaning that he won't play against the New York Islanders.
Concerns flared up on Sunday when Kane was notably absent from practice but the Red Wings initially downplayed his absence by suggesting that Kane was merely taking a maintenance day. Now however it appears clear that Kane is indeed dealing with some type of injury, with Lalonde confirming that he could possibly miss more time.
Lalonde suggested that Kane would need "another day" to recover but wouldn't even commit to that and instead suggested that Kane is likely to be "day to day" moving forward. That leaves a good deal of ambiguity about how long he will be out of the lineup for, but at least it is a sign that the Red Wings don't expect him to be out for the long term.
Kane is currently playing on a 1 year deal that carries an average annual value and cap hit of $4 million per season, but has seen his production decline significantly when compaed to his first season with the Red Wings. Last year Kane put up 20 goals and 27 assists for 47 points, producing at just under a point per game pace over his 50 regular season games. This year Kane has just 3 goals and 7 assists for a total of 10 points over his first 20 games of the season, a steep drop off when compared directly to last season.
