Mitch Marner linked to stunning contender out West!
We’re taking major move here, can it be pulled off before the deadline on Friday? Full details down here:
While most eyes are on trade targets with just days ahead of the deadline, others are focused on Toronto and whether the Maple Leafs will re-sign top forward Mitch Marner to a contract extension. General manager Brad Treliving could also make a major move in order to bring many assets back in a trade.
However, if the Leafs choose to keep Marner for the playoff run, and hope to re-sign him in the summer, John Hoven believes the forward could make a run for free agency, cash in big and perhaps land in Hollywood. Hoven believes the Kings could attempt to sign Marner as he would make more sense that Mikko Rantanen for Los Angeles.
If Rantanen turns down the Carolina Hurricanes’ contract extension offer and lands on the free agent market in July, Hoven thinks the Kings should go after Marner, who played for Jim Hiller and DJ Smith when they were in Toronto.
Hoven added how he believes this could be more of a summer deal, but you have to wonder if perhaps something much bigger is in motion.
Hoven also claims that the Kings are willing to part with their 2025 first round pick for the right trade target, and with two days to go, no update on an extension for Marner in Toronto, and room for a blockbuster trade before Friday, who knows what to expect?!
There is no doubt that Marner would be a great addition to the Kings’ offense and really help them move into the discussion of Stanley Cup contenders in the West.
You’ve all seen what Marner can do! He’s averaged over 25 goals per season and in the past three seasons, had 85 or more points. He is having a great year as he awaits more from contract negotiations and would just be a game-changer in Los Angeles.
I’m however wondering if Marner’s production would remain the dame without playing alongside Auston Matthews, but you just know that he probably would (hint at the 4-nations tournament) and could even become the new franchise face of the Kings.
Can’t wait to see where this one goes…
