Late last night Toronto Police confirmed reports that Toronto Maple Leafs star Mitch Marner was indeed the victim of a carjacking at gunpoint on Monday night.

“It happened at the Cineplex theatre on The Queensway,” said a police source, which is just 10 minutes west of the Leafs’ Scotiabank Arena.

Toronto Police posted on social media about a carjacking at Queensway and Islington Ave. at 7:46 p.m., saying that a man was forced out of a Black Range Rover SUV by three suspects with the use of two handguns and a knife.

According to a source, Marner was driving with a friend to see a movie when “the guys approached wearing masks and said they wanted the vehicle. Mitch turned the vehicle over to the thieves and said, ‘go ahead and take it.”’

The Toronto Sun reported, citing police sources, claim that the suspects didn’t know Marner's identity. “They were only interested in the Range Rover, which they can quickly sell out of country.”

Marner was described as shaken up by the incident but was unharmed.

This scary incident takes place just 48 hours after the Leafs' season ended thanks to a Game 7 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning and just 24 hours before Marner and the team are scheduled for their season ending media availability. It remains to be seen whether or not Marner will be made available today. Stay tuned.
