Sucker punch leads to an ugly brawl in the Ontario Hockey League.
A large post game brawl erupts in the Ontario Hockey League after a sucker punch causes tempers to flare.
The Ontario Hockey League was the site of a large scale brawl on Friday night, one that occurred after the game had already been played.
The game was between the OHL's Erie Otters and Kitchener Rangers, one that the Rangers would win by a score of 3-1, but the fireworks would erupt after the conclusion of the game after a number of cheap shots were exchanged at center ice.
Tempers initially flared as players from both teams took liberties with one another, delivering a number of slashes with their sticks back and forth, but things would really turn ugly after 18 year old Rangers forward Luke Ellinas was on the receiving end of a sucker punch.
The fact that the sucker punch came from the Otters, who have suffered quite a few losses to the Rangers already this season, really made this seem like a case of bad sportsmanship and it clearly rubbed the Rangers the wrong way. Following the sucker punch the gloves would come off and the tension on the ice definitely intensified, although in the grand scheme of things this was thankfully a relatively mild brawl.
While we did see punches thrown only two players really dropped the gloves for a fight, with Ottawa Senators prospect Matthew Andonovski being one of them and earning his third fighting major of the season in the process.
Here's a look at how the whole scene transpired:
