Mitch Marner has 4 teams he’d be willing to waive his clause in order to accept a trade
All in the West!
While there are many obstacles and issues linked to a potential Mitch Marner trade by the Maple Leafs, David Pagnotta of the Fourth Period reports that the star winger has reportedly four teams he’d be willing to waive his no-move clause to in order to accept a trade out of Toronto.
That’s one of the aforementioned obstacle: Marner remains in control control with his full no-movement clause and Toronto cannot trade or waive him without his permission. However, the Fourth Period reports that Marner would be willing to accept a transaction to four landing spots, the Dallas Stars, Chicago Blackhawks, Vegas Golden Knights or Nashville Predators. Pagnotta did however argue that he doesn’t see Chicago as a fit, although it would be a great move by the Blackhawks to add a talented offensive winger next to rookie star Connor Bedard.
While the no-move clause held by Marner is a huge part of whatever deal may come, his contract and cap space will be the big focus in talks. Marner’s AAV of $10.9 million is quite a challenge to take on.
As of now, it makes sense that most reports hint at Marner honoring the final year of his deal.
Despite this new report by the Fourth Period, it is believed that he has yet to officially submit any list of preferred trade destinations to Maple Leafs’ management.
Toronto keeps exploring all of their options, and it includes what the roster could look like if Marner accepts a move and the return available in that major transaction. Could they focus on the four teams that have entered the mix more seriously now?
