Mikko Rantanen injured 6 games after being traded.
The Carolina Hurricanes have lost their star forward to injury shortly after acquiring him in a trade.
The Carolina Hurricanes pulled off a massive in-season trade when they acquired star forward Mikko Rantanen from the Colorado Avalanche, but thus far is has been a bit a bumpy road for Rantanen in Carolina. Not only has Rantanen failed to produce at the level he was doing so in Colorado, with just 2 points in his first 6 games with the Hurricanes, but now it sounds like the talented forward will be missing time as a result of an injury.
News of a potential injury began to make the rounds when Rantanen was notably absent on Saturday as the rest of his teammates hit the ice to warm up ahead of a game against the Utah Hockey Club, with Cory Lavalette appearing to be the first to report the news.
It has since been confirmed by National Hockey League insider Elliotte Friedman that Rantanen is indeed out of the lineup due to an undisclosed injury. According to Friedman the injury is related to Rantanen taking a shot off his leg during Thursday's game between the Hurricanes and Minnesota Wild, and his status for the Four Nations Face-Off this month is now in question.
The good news here for the Hurricanes is that this injury does not appear to be a serious one, and Rantanen will have some additional time to recover if he does indeed miss this month's international hockey tournament. Following today's game against Utah, the Hurricanes won't play again until the 22nd of this month when they take on the Toronto Maple Leafs.
