The head coach of the Pittsburgh Penguins had some very bad news to share on Sunday.

When it rains it pours.

The Pittsburgh Penguins have struggled out of the gate to start the 2024-25 National Hockey League regular season and now it sounds like they will have to move forward without a pair of regulars in their lineup. The concerns began early on Sunday when both forwards Cody Glass and Kevin Hayes were notably absent from practice on Sunday.

Those concerns were well founded with head coach Mike Sullivan revealing that both Glass and Hayes are likely to be out for a while after the team's morning skate on Sunday.

In the case of Cody Glass he is currently dealing with a concussion which means that there is likely no solid timeline on his return, given the extreme variance we have seen when it comes to concussions over the years. Making matters worse is that Glass' injury may have come, at least in part, when he was struck in the head after colliding with teammate Lars Eller.

In the case of Kevin Hayes it sounds like the veteran forward will miss significant time with Sullivan revealing that Hayes will be out week to week due to injury. Hayes is dealing with an upper body injury and there is no clear timeline for his return beyond the week to week designation.

It is a tough break for the Penguins who have picked up just 3 wins over their last 10 games, making what was already an uphill battle to get back into the race early in the season an even more difficult battle moving forward.
