It might be tough to play in front of a crowd of Calgary Flames fans in the Saddledome, but Edmonton Oilers goalie Mike Smith is finding out it’s just as hard out there, especially on social media.

The Flames were off to another powerful start for Game 2 on Friday night, beating Smith twice to get the Flames ahead. The sea of red jerseys in the crowd cheered loudly for each goal, and even went on to mock Smith after that when he managed to stop the puck.

And it’s not just these fans that are brutal. Smith is currently trending on social media as some people are destroying him and his play in the second round of the postseason. Smith has made nine straight starts. He looks like he's worn down.

Here are a few of the many tweets posted about Smith on Twitter when the poor goalie is getting lit up.

Check it out:

I suggest to Smith to turn off his phone for the remainder of the series… The Battle of Alberta was expected to be nasty, and Gosh is it ever on social media.

Fortunately for Smith, while he cannot count on Duncan Keith to help him out from the back end, the veteran defenseman did manage to score a goal towards the end of the first period to get the Oilers into the game.

The score is 2-1 for the crowd favourites after one frame.

But Smith keeps feeling the heat on the ice, and online.
