Mikael Granlund has been traded!
Two NHL insiders confirm that veteran National Hockey League forward Mikael Granlund has been traded.
We have a trade on Saturday in the National Hockey League, at least according to a pair of very credible insiders.
The news was first broken by former NHL player turned analyst Kevin Weekes, who revealed on Saturday that his sources were informing him of a deal between the San Jose Sharks and Dallas Stars involving forward Mikael Granlund.
That has now been confirmed by a second insider with NHL insider Elliotte Friedman revealing that the trade is indeed happening, although no further details were shared by Friedman upon his initial confirmation of the news.
Friedman has now however added that it appears veteran defenseman Cody Ceci is also a part of this trade, but still no word yet on what the return will look like for the Sharks in this deal.
Granlund is having himself a solid season in spite of being on a team with its fair share of struggles, netting 15 goals and adding 30 assists for a total of 45 points over 52 games as a Shark this season. Granlund is in the 4th year of a 4 year deal that carries an average annual value and salary cap hit of $5 million per season and will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season.
Ceci has 4 goals and 11 assists for 15 points over his 54 games as a Shark this season and like Granlund he is in the final year of a 4 year deal and will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of this season, but he carries an average annual value and cap hit of just $3.25 million per season.
Update: A 2025 first round pick and 2025 conditional third round pick are going the way of the Sharks in this trade.
