We are just one week away from the 2023 NHL Draft in Nashville and talks are not cooling down on prospect Matvei Michkov. Last week, reports emerged that several teams have indicated that they cannot get the confirmation that they will be able to meet Michkov before the draft. Even the scouts that travels to Russia had a hard time talking to him.

Rumours have also reported that Michkov is hoping to be selected by the Washington Capitals, with their eighth overall selection, though one of the team’s scout now exposed the Russian player’ character just seven days before the draft!
Washington scout Andrei Nikolishin shared character concerns surrounding the 18-year-old forward to the Slippery Ice Podcast last week, as translated by Google Translate, saying:

“Full-fledged information is collected about the player: how he talks to partners, how he communicates with coaches, how he behaves off the ice. Many nuances can be revealed. I can show correspondence when I wanted to meet him and, as a scout, ask a few questions and do an interview… I have not seen such disrespect for other people in my life.”

This isn’t the first time Michkov is linked to a negative attitude towards his teammates. Back in the shortened 2020 season, he got into a fight with Capitals prospect Ivan Miroshnichenko during a Russian junior team training session for the Youth Olympics.

“For me, he’s first or second [based on skill],” Nikolishin added. “But in character, in relation to teammates, coaching staff, management, fans — a person has now fallen very low in the eyes of all scouts, all managers.”

Back in March of this year, several scouts had shared similar concerns with Michkov’s character to The Hockey News’ Ryan Kennedy.

Let’s see where Michkov ends up on the first round of the Draft on June 28th…
