Matt Rempe stuns with answer to who he’d most want to fight!
I was not expecting that response…
Matt Rempe enjoys his role as the New York Rangers’ young impulsive enforcer. In his first season in the National Hockey League, Rempe quickly cemented himself as an enforcer. He only played 17 games in 2023-24 but he’s become fan favorite among Rangers fans. And they cannot wait to see him drop the gloves again this upcoming campaign.
Just recently, when signing autographs, Rempe caught the attention - once again - when he was asked who he’d most want to fight. His answer stunned many as he didn’t go with Andreas Englund or Nicholas Deslauriers, but instead named Milan Lucic as his dream opponent per Hockey Patrol.
Not sure I saw this one coming, especially since Lucic remains a free agent and could have played his last NHL game. Back in November, Lucic was playing in his second tenure with the Boston Bruins after returning as a free-agent, when he was arrested following an alleged incident of domestic violence against his wife, Brittany Lucic. Ever since the terrible incident took place, signs have pointed to the veteran forward struggling to find a new landing spot in the NHL.
I feel like fans are not going to see that fight between Lucic and Rempe, as much as the latter would love to.
This past season, Rempe posted just one goal and one assist. In 11 playoff games, Rempe’s most minutes were the 10:06 he played in Game 2 against the Florida Panthers in the EC Finals. By Game 5 of that series, Rempe played a mere 2:43 and was scratched for Game 6.
It’s great to see the kid devoted to protecting his teammates, but he also needs to focus on creating offense and offering depth to the Rangers in order to get deeper into the postseason.
And so, let’s maybe forget about Lucic.
